J. Larry Tilby
Electric Bass, String Bass and vocals
J Larry Tilby was born in Athens, GA, and raised in Bath, SC. He holds Bachelors in Music from Newberry College in Newberry, SC. He has been for playing Bass for over 25 years. His experience and education make him equally comfortable performing with a rock/country/jazz band on the Electric Bass or with a Symphony Orchestra on the String Bass. In 1988, Larry enlisted in the US Army and serves proudly as a Bass Player in the US Army Band Field. He serves as a Sergeant First Class with the US Army Ground Forces Band at Ft. McPherson, GA. He has visited and/or performed in 34 countries, to include entertaining Deployed Soldiers in 3 separate Combat Zones. Artist and Groups of Note that Larry has performed with are The Coasters, The Augusta Jazz Project, The Doubletake Band, The Augusta Symphony, The Virginia Beach Symphony, Carl Fontana (Stan Kenton Band), Wycliffe Gordon (Wynton Marsalis’ Band), Alan Vizzutti, and Eric Hargrove (James Brown’s Band). He has performed for numerous heads of State, to include several performances for our own President of the United States. Throughout his extensive travels, Larry has remained true to his Southern Roots. His family became concerned that with all of his travels, he might end up with a Wife who was not also Southern. He proved them wrong when he married the former Rosary Villanueva, who is from The Philippines…… which is in the South Pacific. Between them, they have 4 Sons. |
