Quick Hearty Soups: Delicious Meals

March 23rd, 2012

Eating soup is a superb technique to get a full and healthy meal. Soup is not expensive filling, and easy to cook. It is a smart way to get your veg and protein in one straightforward, one-bowl meal. Additionally, soups that are slowly cooked in a crockpot make your house smell delicious.

Adding a slice of whole grain bread and a salad makes a filling, gratifying meal for the whole family. Soup is also sometimes freezable and simple to warm up.

All soups commence with a solid base. Choose chicken, beef, or vegetable broth from a can or from bouillon cubes. Make certain to select a brand without MSG. If you’d like to make your own soup starter, dice two parts onion to one part celery and one part carrot to make a mirepoix. Sautee the blend in one spoon of olive oil or broth and add addition veg, broth, beans, meats, pasta, or poultry as desired.

Fresh, in-season vegetables will give your soup exquisite flavor and add lots of fiber and vitamins to your meal. Chop your vegetables in to bite-size pieces and boil them in your soup base.

Add harder vegetables, like onions, first. Beans are wonderful sources of protein, zinc, iron, folate, and fiber. They also are delicious, filling, and cheap. Dry beans are usually sold in bags and must be soaked overnight.

Next, add your vegetables, broth, and seasonings and cook four to six hours. You can purchase beans in cans if you don’t have as much time. If you are using dried herbs, add them at the end of your cooking time. If your herbs are fresh, add them with the vegetables. Using herbs like parsley, rosemary, or basil adds flavor to your soup and cuts back on the amount of salt you’ll need.

Soup is a delicious, tasty way to serve your folks a good, cheap, gratifying meal. There is no limit to the variations you can create, so try different vegetables, spices, beans and meats to find the combos that truly work for your family. For a straightforward dinner, soup is always on the menu.

You may someday be leaving your wonderful home, and all that good home cooking. You may be going away to get married, or possibly to go away to school for more education. In either case, you will still need to eat and nothing is better than fresh, home cooked food.

The chief in the kitchen (mom) will certainly be sure you have copies of some of your very favorites from the cooking collection. Dad may even have a few you especially loved. These methods may eventually be passed down to future generations.

Most of the mothers that spend time in the kitchen will come up with some unique cooking instructions of their own. These can be for any meal, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. Remember, not all good meals come from a cook book, or from a can.

Thinking about a trip back home for a visit often puts into your mind visions of fragrant stews, chocolate cakes and peanut butter cookies. You can just taste them all. The house will have fragrances as you enter that will tickle your taste buds.

No matter what the reason for you finally leaving home, whether it be for marriage, school or for some other reason, you will be happy to have mom’s recipes because you will always need to eat.
